Dear Friends, and for many of you who read my blog or happen to stumble upon it while surfing the web and checking out artists sites. I want to say thank you for your wonderful support. I am deeply indebted to the hundreds of friends, supporters and community from far and near that contributed to making the fundraiser that was organized on my behalf to help with my medical costs and recuperation this past February 2010 at Casa Aztlan in Pilsen a tremendous success.
Special thanks goes out to Víctor and Leticia Cortes and family for organizing and rallying everyone and to the music groups Los Pichardo and Son del Viento, to my fellow artists and poets that generously donated their work and to Casa Aztlan for providing the space. As some of you might know I have been battling breast cancer and non-Hodgkin Lymphoma for over twenty years. I have been in remission since 2008.
In February I had preventive surgery to remove my ovaries and fallopian tubes due to my history and high risk for developing other forms of cancer, in particular ovarian cancer. I am happy to report that the surgery went fine and there were no complications, and I am recuperating well. Two months after surgery I am now starting to get back to some serious art making.
Again, I thank everyone for their generous support, camaraderie and friendship. With much peace and love, Diana.
